LUX was founded in 2016 by UW alum Blake Rizzo with the intention of giving UW students a space to meet people and make films. Each quarter, LUX aims to produce 4-5 short films. All of our quarterly films can be found on our YouTube channel. You can learn more about our recent work and project timeline below.
Recent Productions (Spring 2026)
"Time is running out, and dude bro Jake needs to print his final essay in order to go to The Game. But, the only way to do that is to use the printer in the Dorothy Center, his campus' queer safe space. To do so, he goes through a transformation."
"Years after losing Emma, Aaron wanders familiar places where memories of their time together resurface. A letter she left forces him to confront loss, love, and the way she continues to live within him."
"Sisters Sarah and Laura think they’ve gotten away with the murder of Sarah’s abusive husband in a small PNW town, but reality begins to fracture as they go on the run."
"Years after Caden walked out of their final piano competition, he returns, forcing June, his former partner in piano and life, to confront the new reality of their relationship."
"In a single night, Zain rushes to complete his philosophy final group project with his friend, crush… and ex."
Our Process
At our first meeting of every quarter, club members pitch their scripts to be considered for becoming a quarterly production. Club members then vote on which scripts will be produced, usually coming down to about 4-5. Participating members are then automatically assigned to production crews by our Crewmatch app based on their role and production preferences. Once crews are locked down, the first few weeks of the quarter consist of regular crew meetings to ensure that everyone is adequately prepared for shooting.
Typically each of our films are shot over a range of 2-5 shoot days, which our producers meticulously schedule. Our films are usually shot on UW's campus and/or in the surrounding area. We emphasize that our quarterly productions are meant to be beginner friendly, and do our best to maintain a collaborative environment on set where anyone can feel comfortable learning a new production role.
Once shooting has wrapped, post-production crew members (composers, editors, etc.) work together to finish their respective films before our end-of-quarter screening. All of our quarterly productions are screened during the last week of the quarter (along with some independent projects) at Regal Cinemas.
